Ethics Committee of Faculty 10

The Ethics Committee assesses research projects which collect personal data using empirical methods. Its aim is to ensure the protection of personal rights with regard to aspects of research ethics.

About the Ethics Committee

Some research projects use empirical and social scientific methods of collecting data. Personal data can be among the data collected. These data are subject to special legal protections. The Ethics Committee assesses research projects of this nature with regard to ethical considerations. The central question in the assessment is whether the research proposal fulfils all the conditions which ensure the protection of the personal rights of the people involved.

Researchers are also advised on applying for and carrying out the research, and receive an assessment after the committee examines the research proposal. The Committee's procedures are voluntary and must be applied for by the researchers.

The Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies was created by a resolution of the Faculty Council (Fakultätsrat). The legally binding regulations are the procedural and internal regulations of 3 May 2021 (in German) (PDF, 86 KB).
