This one-day workshop brings together scholars of early modern philosophy and German idealism to comment on and discuss topics related to Jim Kreines's new book ‘Hegel and Spinoza’ (Cambridge University Press 2026). The book concerns Hegel’s engagement with Spinoza’s metaphysics, including Hegel’s interpretation of Spinoza’s monism, his criticism that Spinoza’s philosophy must eliminate all finitude and determinacy, and the way in which understanding this engagement can help us understand Hegel’s Logic.
