Professorship of Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
Prof. Dr. Sven Nyholm
About the Professorship of Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
The aim of the Professorship of Ethics of Artificial Intelligence is, first, to conduct research on general questions in the field of AI ethics and, moreover, to investigate specific questions, such as topics relating to specific applications of AI.
Among other things, this includes topics such as self-driving cars, decision support systems, large language models, recommendation systems, and robotics, as well as applications in various work contexts, for instance in medical or military contexts.
The research and teaching at the Professorship focus primarily on topics in AI ethics from the viewpoint of distinctly philosophical questions. The Professorship also has an interdisciplinary outlook, however, and devotes itself, through collaboration with researchers from neighbouring fields, to the topic of AI in society and the question of how AI alters the human condition.
The Junior Research Group in AI Ethics, led by Dr. Benjamin Lange, is also based at the Professorship. In harmony with the overarching aims of the Professorship, the research group deals with theoretical and practical ethical issues in AI and machine learning from analytic-philosophical and interdisciplinary perspectives.
