Personal information

Sophie Kikkert is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chair for Philosophy and Decision Theory, located at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP). Previously, she worked as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies: Human Abilities, associated with Humboldt University Berlin. She received her PhD in Philosophy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2022.

Research interests

Sophie’s research concerns topics within social philosophy, modal epistemology, and practical rationality. In particular, she investigates how the abilities that agents have and believe they have affect their opportunities, aspirations, and choices. Some of the questions her work addresses are: how do we learn about our own skills and competency? And: which options ought someone represent when faced with a decision, given what they believe about their abilities?

In addition, Sophie is working on a new theory of disability, with a special focus on enculturation and the normativity of ability.
