AvH Research Fellow
Chair of Philosophy of Science, MCMP
Emilia Margoni joined the MCMP as a Humboldt fellow in 2026 after spending two years in Geneva (2024-2026) as an SNF postdoctoral fellow. She holds a PhD in Philosophy (2024), an MA in philosophy (2020), an MS in physics of matter (2017) and a BS in physics (2015).
Emilia’s main research interests lie at the intersection of theoretical physics and metaphysics, with a particular regard on the ontological status of spacetime within quantum gravity projects and inter/intra theoretic relations across physical frameworks. Her PhD focused on the group field theory approach to quantum gravity as an attempt at unification in physics opening novel and fascinating insights on foundational physics, epistemology, and metaphysics. During her postdoc in Geneva, she explored possible ways to understand causation in quantum gravity, with a specific focus on causal set theory. With her Humboldt fellowship, titled “Critical phenomena and the open systems view. Towards a novel, anti-fundamentalist framework” she aims to unravel the fruitfulness of the open systems view for a class of phenomena in condensed matter physics.
