Research interests

I study political philosophy and ethics. I focus on utilitarianism, communitarianism, and feminism. I also have a great interest in Christian philosophy, especially Origen and St Aquinas.

PhD project

Title: Sidgwick's political philosophy

Numerous stereotypes of utilitarianism are its pursuit of mathematical solutions and its obsession with maximizing. In this study of utilitarianism political philosophy, however, we will find that the late classical utilitarian master have shown that it is the people in the network of communication who are the ultimate perceivers and adjudicators of “utility”. People with the ability to measure utility must engage in a rich form of political activity in society, and this is an important - if not the most important - aspect of the production and distribution of utility. The tension between the quest for general maximum happiness and the quest for a happy individual life will be combined and released in our political life, and there is a possibility of achieving real harmony. By examining Sidgwick's political philosophy, this study will take political life as an answer to the eternal dilemma: how to maximize utility and live our own life with happiness?
