Religious Experiences in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The project focuses on lived experiences of people from diverse religious backgrounds serving in the Ukrainian military since 2022. Grounded in extensive ethnographic materials, including in-depth interviews with chaplains, active military personnel, and veterans, this study examines the ways in which service members negotiate, interpret, resist or reframe the state's institutionalized narratives of sacrifice and sacred duty in their personal faith traditions, rituals, and spiritual practices".
