Opening Event: LMU Center for Religion and Philosophy

Termin:

Do.:
18:15 Uhr

6. November 2025

Ort:

Internationalen Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft IBZ Amalienstraße 38 80799 München

The event begins at 6 p.m. (c.t.) with some brief introductions, followed by presentations from colleagues from the LMU Faculty of Philosophy – Profs. Peter Adamson, Sebastian Gäb, and Robert Yelle – as well as from our special guest, Prof. Cristiana Facchini from the University of Bologna.
The theme of the presentations is "Tell Me Something New about Religion." Brief reflections on this theme will be followed by a discussion and, starting around 8 p.m., a reception with wine and snacks.

Earlier this year, the Center for Religion and Philosophy was established in the Faculty of Philosophy at the LMU Munich to foster international and interdisciplinary scholarship in the philosophy, history and anthropology of religion. The Center is supported by a Foundation that was enabled by the generosity of a private donor. We have already begun operations, as reflected in activities earlier this year including an excursion course, guest lectures, and an international workshop on "The Political Bible." However, we have not yet had the opportunity to recognize formally the creation of an institution that we hope and expect will make a longstanding contribution to the study of religion at the LMU.
