Prof. Dr. Jan Westerhoff, Universität Oxford

Prof. Dr. Jan Westerhoffs talk will focus on four central problems in Indian Buddhist philosophy: the existence of the external world, the question of personal identity, the notion of a fundamental ontological level, and the existence of an ultimately true theory. After introducing what these problems are Prof. Westerhoff will consider the main take of Indian Buddhist philosophers on these problems, examine arguments they present in support of their positions, and relate these to questions and debates in the contemporary Western philosophical discussion.
